THE QUICKENING POWER OF THE WORD OF GOD
TEXT: PSALM 119:107.
Psalm 119:107: ”Quicken me, O Lord, according unto thy word!”
INTRODUCTION
The word we shall consider in this study is the word “quicken” (or ”quickening”). It means “to give life and to preserve life” and ”to be made alive”. This covers our basic needs, because we need to receive life and to be preserved by life;. we need to receive life initially, which takes place at the time of conversion, but we also need to be preserved by life continually, which refers to God’s work of sanctification.
From the scriptures we learn two things:-
- The HOLY SPIRIT is the one who GIVES LIFE (quickens) – lookup and compare John 6:63 and 2 Peter 3:18.
- The WORD OF GOD is the INSTRUMENT the Holy Spirit uses to accomplish this work- we learn this from many references in the Scriptures and Romans 4:17 and Romans 8:11 illustrate this.
- What does that mean, it means that the HolyGhost won’t be able to do the work of
quickening in your life if your life lacks the word of God. The word of God gives the Holy Spirit the platform to work in your life. The Bible says, the word I speak to you, they are life and spirit. So the word is Holy Spirit’s transportation system
- I pray for you, your hunger for the word shall increase.
- May the Lord launch you deeper to the place of the Word
There are many things that will not happen in your life until you start consuming the word as you should. Many work in your life also will be kept on hold until the word needed for the activation comes. You must not joke with the word… Prayer is good, but praying in the absence of the word is ineffective. The word makes prayer powerful…
Let me show you the life of Joseph ;
Psalms 105:17-20
[17] He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant [18] Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron: [19] Until the time that his word came: the word of the Lord tried him. [20] The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free.
Now watch that scripture, and pay attention to verse 19… Verse 18 says he was hurt and laid in iron…
- Have you been hurt? Or are you in hurt?
- Is your life in trouble?
- Are you passing through undescribable challenge? follow me I will tell you what you need
- Are you in pains?
Joseph was too But something happened in verse 19. The Bible says in verse 19, until his Word came… O my God…
- I pray for you, your word will locate you
The arrival of his word became the instrument of his deliverance. That which you are into only needs to collide with just a portion of the scripture and it will disappear. Study through the word until you come face to face with your own word. Everything the Lord has intended to do for you is packaged in His word. If you don’t read it, you will forfeit
- I pray for you, let an unusual anointing for the study of the word come on you in the name of Jesus.
What does the quickening of the Word achieve in us
- It is through God’s Word that the Holy Spirit quickens us with new life, so that we become partakers of the Divine nature..
Ephesians 2:1 tells us that we are by nature spiritually dead, and that when the miracle of the New Birth takes place we are born again by the quickening work of the Holy Spirit.
We also learn from 1 Peter 1:23 and 2 Peter 1:4 that the Word of God is the instrument used by the Holy Spirit ”so that through them you may participate in the divine nature…”;
it is the “seed” of the new life which is dropped into our souls and which makes us ”alive to God” (Romans 6:11). A Christian is one who is born again and who receives the new life of the Risen Lord.
- It is through God’s Word that the Holy Spirit quickens us in our desires to pray and guides our praying..
It is the indwelling Holy Spirit who prompts us to pray, and for an illustration of this turn to Acts 9:9-11. Immediately after his conversion, and as an evidence that he really had been converted, Saul of Tarsus prayed (verse 11)! This is the first exercise of the new life.
As Christians we are frequently conscious of the Holy Spirit within us urging us to pray. He leads us to the place of prayer and then He shows us how to pray (Romans 8:26-27).
Prayer will be a struggle without the Holy Spirit and Also Holy Spirit will be incapacitated in you without the Word So feed in the Word so you can always give the Holy Spirit chance in your life to find expression.
- Through the word, HolySpirit quickens us with new life.
- Through the word HolySpirit quickens our desire to pray…
The bible says, we know not what to pray, but the spirit prays through us with groans that words can’t utter…
- It is through God’s Word that the Holy Spirit quickens us when we are in danger of getting slack, dull or careless..
Psalm 71:20 “Thou, which hast shewed me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth.”
The operative word there is ”again”. This shows that the psalmist had fallen and he needed to be lifted up and revived. It is easy for us to get spiritually out of touch with the Lord, to become disobedient(Jonah 1:1-3), to deny the Lord, to turn away from Him; to become carnal; to walk in the flesh; to allow wrong attitudes; and to become lukewarm. At such times we need the quickening work of the Holy Spirit to renew our love for the Lord and our determination to please Him.
The means through which the Lord quickens back our love for God in times of weakness is the word. The word releases strength to your spirit.
You have not really fallen until you have been totally disconnected from the Word.
If you can still find your way back to the word, you will be able to jack up from your slumber. That’s why when the devil wants to attack a person he will first distant him from the word, then he can strike…
- I pray for you, may the Lord cause His word to be your daily desire.
- I cause every power making you to grow cold in the word.
The devil knows the level of the word of God operational in your life. When Jesus was weak, the devil came to tempt Him, it was the word He presented to the devil. A man of the Word can not easily be tossed to and fro…
- I pray for you, let the Lord revive your hunger for the word.
- It is through God’s Word that the Holy Spirit quickens us when we are in bondage and sets us free..
In Psalm 119:153 the Psalmist prayed, ”Look upon my suffering and deliver me, for I have not forgotten your law.”
Deliverance is easy where the word is active… A deliverance minister that doesn’t know the role of the Word, won’t make a significant progress in helping lives. He will just end up shouting and making noise… The devil doesn’t fear your bassy or loud voice. Entering into one bondage or the other is very easy, But through the word freedom is certain
Remember Lazarus, it was the Word that Jesus used to set him free… He was bound hands, feet and face until when his word came Jesus said, “loose him and let him go.” You see the weapon for his release was the word…
- I speak that same word to you, may you be loosed of any entanglement in your life, marriage, destiny, family, etc in the name of Jesus.
- It is through God’s Word that the Holy Spirit instructs us in the way of righteousness and enables us to please God..
Many times in Psalm 119 the psalmist prays that God would show him the right way and enable him to walk in that way.
This is exactly what the Holy Spirit does as we turn to Gods Word with the desire to hear Him speaking to us (Psalm 119:18); as we meditate upon what we read (verse 15); as we compare scripture with scripture (Acts 17:11).
This is the only way to discover the kind of life God wants us to live and to receive His enabling to live it. As much as you may think you know what to do, in the absence of the word, you will still land yourself in problem. The word is the key… Through the word you know exactly what to do and the way to follow…
Remember, there is a way that seemeth right unto a man but the end thereof is destruction… Be wise and take a decision concerning the word of God. Load your spirit with it, as you do that, may the Lord bless you.
Prayer Focus
- O Lord I thank you for exposing the truth about about your word unto me
- Father Lord destroy everything in me that is taking me away from the reality of your word
- O Lord increase the hunger of your word in my life and cause it to be sustained
- Today in the name of Jesus I declare I shall enjoy the benefits the word of God offers
- I break in the name of Jesus every hinserance to the growth of the Word of God in me
- Lord Jesus as study your word, quicken me from slumber to life in the Spirit
- Thou power of God separate me from personalities that are attacking the efficacy of your word.
