THE SPIRIT OF BITTERNESS

The world is full of people who have not dealt with an old hurt. They look for things to criticize, people to find fault with, and ways to justify the way they feel. Bitterness is that painful emotion felt or experienced in a strong and unpleasant way.  One can be angry and unhappy or enraged because of unfair treatment. Like depression and other emotional stress, bitterness and resentment can aggravate or cause physical problems, and also you can be affected mentally, spiritually, and otherwise. Your relationships with your spouse, family, friends, etc, will always suffer. A bitter person can kill.

SIGNS OF THE SPIRIT OF BITTERNESS

  1. Grief and regret
  2. Sees God as unapproachable and unavailable
  3. Cannot love or be loved
  4. Rude
  5. Fault finding
  6. Blames God for turnout of event
  7. Harsh to people around
  8. Pain
  9. Hurt
  10. Negative complaining attitude towards life
  11. Self-righteous

 

CAUSES OF BITTERNESS

  1. Unforgiveness
  2. Anger
  3. Bad friendship
  4. Feeling of abandonment by parents.
  5. Accumulation of bad experiences.
  6. Repetitive bad luck.
  7. Loss of a dear one.
  8. No vision of good future.
  9. Sickness.
  10. Deception from a trusted one.
  11. Negative childhood experiences.

 

EFFECTS OF BITTERNESS

  1. Deprivation of joy and happiness {1 Sam. 1:5-7}
  2. It crushes the spirit and provokes complaints {Job 7:11, 9:18}
  3. lt brings fear and anxiety/worry {Job 9:27-28}
  4. It weighs down the spirit {Job 10:1}
  5. It brings heaviness of the heart {Prov.14:10, 13}
  6. Lack of interest and hunger for certain things {Lam.1:4}
  7. Express defeat and losses {Ezek. 21:6}

 

REMEDIES FROM SPIRIT OF BITTERNESS

  1. Total repentance. Reject the spirit of bitterness and he will exit your life completely. Luke 15:7
  2. Take joy and pleasure in the things God has bestowed you with and be contented with them. 1 Timothy 6:6
  3. Invite the Holy Spirit to come and fill you up with his fruits. Galatians 5: 22
  4. Imbibe the attitude to forgive. Let go of wrongs done to you by others. Matt 18: 22
  5. Profess positivity into your life on a daily basis. Jeremiah 29:11

 

PRAYERS AGAINST THE SPIRIT OF BITTERNESS

  1. I bless your Name Almighty Father, thank you for this wonderful day which you have made and told us to rejoice and be glad in it, indeed I will rejoice and my heart will be glad in Jesus name.
  2. To you oh Lord,I lift up my hands in adoration and thanksgiving, and I say Glory be to your name in Jesus name amen.
  3. Today Lord, I acknowledge that I have sinned against you, please forgive me and let your mercy prevail over my life and destiny in Jesus name amen.
  4. It is written, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthen” (Phil 4:13). Father strengthen me to break every chain of bitterness I harbor in my heart against anybody in the name of Jesus.
  5. Father empower me with your grace to forgive everyone who has offended me in the name of Jesus (Matt 6:14, Eph 4:32).
  6. Father don’t let me ever fall short of your grace and don’t allow bitterness to ever germinate in my life in the name of Jesus.(Hebrews 12:15).
  7. Heavenly Father, I have made up my mind not to be bitter again, please let all bitterness disappear from me in the name of Jesus. (Ephesians 4:31).
  8. Father do not let me perish in the bitterness of my soul. Please deliver me in the name of Jesus amen (Job 21:25).
  9. Father, as you empty me of bitterness, please fill me with joy and gladness in the name of Jesus (Psalm 51:8).
  10. Father, let my heart and my soul always rejoice in you in the name of Jesus (Philippians 4:4).
  11. Thank you Lord, for giving me the grace to pray today and to overcome bitterness.
  12. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayers In Jesus mighty name, Amen.

1 JOHN 1:8-9 “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”. (NKJV)

  1. Father in the Name of Jesus, I thank you for the understanding I have received on the fact that bitterness is a sin.
  2. By your Word oh Lord, I confess that I am a sinner, Almighty God I plead that you cleanse me from every unrighteousness in Jesus Name.
  3. Let the cleansing Blood of the Lamb, wipe away every sin of bitterness in me in Jesus name amen.

1 JOHN 4:7 “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. (NKJV).

  1. Sweet Holy Spirit, I pray that you endow me with the fruit of love that I may be able to reciprocate love and also show love to those who have never loved me, in Jesus name.
  2. I pray for the grace to forgive all hurts of the past no matter how deep and to always see the good in people and never their faults in Jesus name.
  3. I receive the grace to be more appreciative of favours I recieve irrespective of how little and to be sincerely grateful for them, in Jesus name.

GALATIANS 5:22-24 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.( NKJV).

  1. According to your Word, oh God bitterness is not a fruit of the Spirit, therefore in the name of Jesus, I put off every garment of bitterness in my life, destiny, family, business, ministry, career Amen.
  2. Blood of Jesus cleanse me from every form of hatred, envy, unforgiveness, bitterness I have ever harbored in my heart in Jesus Mighty Name Amen.
  3. Today oh God, I receive the Fruits of the Holy Spirit upon all my life endeavors, and by faith I activate their manifestations in my life, destiny, family, business, ministry in Jesus Name Amen.
  4. I have crucified my flesh, its desires, and passions on the Cross, and henceforth I begin to walk in the Spirit in Jesus mighty name.
